Level 3 Certificate in Travel and Tourism
This OFQUAL regulated qualification is designed to give learners the skills to work in the travel and tourism sector. Learners will gain those skills by successfully completing the units required.
This qualification would allow you to study other qualifications, such as a foreign language or geography, which would provide a complementary mix for this subject. The qualification provides you with the basis to progress into employment within the travel and tourism sector. It would also support progression into an Apprenticeship or into higher level studies.

This qualification provides the basis for you to progress into employment within the travel and tourism sector and is supported by employers and experts from the travel and tourism industry such as Swissport, Hays Travel and Travel Counsellors.
Aims of the course
These are to:
- provide learners with an in-depth understanding of the principles of the travel and tourism industry and allow them to explore the various avenues of work within this industry
- allow learners to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.
- understanding different types and roles of Travel agency operations
- explain how organisations manage customer service and their policies and procedures
- explain the range of travel and tourism organisations as well as their ownership and interrelationships.
- analyse employment opportunities and the impact of current trends in travel and tourism
- prepare their CV or personal profile
- audit their own skills, qualifications, experience and interests to meet the requirements for employment, higher level studies, apprenticeship, etc
- UK Travel and tourism industry
- understand what attracts tourists to destinations including factors that attract tourists to destinations
- Evaluate how hospitality providers meet the needs and expectations of customers
Essential skills
While completing these qualifications, learners may develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees. These range from familiar ‘key skills’ such as team working, independent learning and problem-solving, to more tricky-to-measure skills such as:
- an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and dress
- appropriate interpersonal skills
- communicating with professional colleagues/peers and/or hierarchical seniors
- supporting other aspiring employees
- personal manners and department understanding
Structure
To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Travel and Tourism, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units and 3 optional units.

- Unit 02 The UK travel and tourism industry

- UK visitor attractions
- Hospitality in travel and tourism
- Travel agency operations
- Marketing for travel and tourism
- Resort representative roles and responsibilities
- Worldwide passenger airlines
- The cruise industry
- UK heritage tourist attractions
How the course is delivered
This Level 3 Certificate in Travel and Tourism is delivered via blended learning. Learners also get full access to online Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to case studies, learning materials and activities, presentations, and web links. Online tutor support and guidance is provided throughout the course, where learners can interact with the tutors, get feedback on their progress and submit their work electronically. Face to face interactions will be conducted through video sessions or within the classroom environment.
